Rented Tesla’s Battery Drains Quickly in Cold Weather, Causing Frequent Charging Stops

A brother and sister who rented a Tesla from Hertz for a trip from Orlando, Florida, to Wichita, Kansas, had to stop and charge the electric car six times in one day due to the battery draining quickly. Xaviar Steavenson said he and his sister, Alice, could initially drive for at least two and a half hours before needing to charge the car, but as the weather turned colder, they had to stop every one to two hours to charge the battery for an hour or more. The frequent stops cost between $25 and $30 each and resulted in lost time on their journey. Hertz said it had not seen an increase in customer complaints about EV rental batteries and that battery range can be affected by weather and other factors
