Qatar Airways Flight Makes Emergency Landing After Passengers Spot Issue with Wing

On December 31, 2022, Qatar Airways flight QR899 was forced to make an emergency landing after passengers reportedly spotted something hanging from the wing shortly after takeoff from Brisbane. The pilots of the Boeing 777-300 aircraft stopped climbing at 10,000 feet and entered a holding pattern off the Gold Coast. The flight returned to Brisbane after the pilot assessed the issue and decided to return to the airport. The aircraft remained at an altitude of 10,000 feet as it circled off the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast before landing back in Brisbane less than two hours later. Qatar Airways has stated that the aircraft returned due to a technical issue and is assisting passengers with hotel accommodations before resuming their journey at the earliest opportunity.
