Canada Grants Record Number of Permanent Residencies in 2022

Canada has reached a new immigration record, granting more than 437,000 foreigners permanent residency in 2022. This marks the largest annual intake of people in Canadian history, surpassing the previous record set in 1913 by around 9%. The Canadian government has set a target to welcome 1.45 million new permanent residents by the end of 2025 in an effort to address labour market shortages and boost the economy. Immigrants make up almost 100% of Canada’s labour force growth and are expected to represent up to 30% of the population by 2036. The Canadian government is also planning targeted draws for skilled immigrants in 2023, allowing them to select applicants with the most in-demand skills for regions in need of workers
